Dentistry - Key To Your Health

Dentistry is a profession that no one can live without. Many people don't realize how important dentistry and dentists are to our all around health. Dentistry is the branch of science and medicine that deals with the study, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of problems of the mouth and face.

Dentistry are the professionals who practice dentistry. Dentistry is basically the evaluation, diagnosis, prevention and treatment of conditions, diseases and disorders of the oral cavity, maxillofacial area and the associate structures and the amount of impact occurs to the body. Dentistry usually involves a number of different procedures on the oral cavity, but dentists also must perform oral surgery.

There are different types of dentistry procedures including pulpotomy, pulpectomy, root canal, crowns, veneers, bridges, implants, dentures, extraction, apiectomy, fibertomy and many more. Dentists usually perform teeth cleaning the most. Teeth cleaning removes plaque that develops even when a person brushes their teeth. Tooth scaling and polishing are also common dentistry procedures used by dentists or dental hygienists when performing a teeth cleaning. Dentists aren't the only people who practice dentistry. Dentistry can be performed by dental hygienists, dental assistants, dental technicians and dental therapists. Dentists meet the criteria to practice dentistry only upon graduating with a degree in either Doctor of Dental Medicine (DMD), Doctor of Dental Surgery (DDS), Bachelor of Dental Science (BDSc) Bachelor of Dentistry (Bdent), or Bachelor of Dental Surgery (BDS).

There are about 9 dentistry specialties that dentists can study, including dental public health, endodontics, oral and maxillofacial pathology, oral and maxillofacial radiology, oral and maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics and dentofacial orthopaedics, periodontics, pediatric dentistry, and prosthodontics. There is also dental anesthesiology, which is the study of how to relieve pain through use of local and general anesthesia. It isn't really considered a dentistry specialty yet, though. Dentists usually perform major dental surgeries using anesthesia. Dentists will inject an anesthetic to block sensory transmission by the alveolar nerves. The maxillary teeth are most often anesthetized locally by placing a needle under the oral mucosa, surround the teeth.

Dentistry is an age old practice of studying, diagnosing, preventing and treating all oral health problems and diseases. People should visit dentists at least every 6 months to receive an oral exam to ensure proper oral hygiene.
